ISO/IEC 8859-1, commonly referred to as Latin-1, is a character encoding in the ISO/IEC 8859 series of ASCII-based standard character encodings. It encodes 191 characters from the Latin script. It is the basis for many popular 8-bit character sets and the second block of characters in Unicode, the Latin-1 Supplement.
